When the industry was deregulated in July 2002, auDA introduced a reseller notification fee of $275 payable anytime someone opened up a reseller account with a registrar. The benefits of this fee have always been somewhat vague, and in October 2003, auDA had a review of the reseller process, and one of the changes made was to drop this fee. Fees already paid are not refundable, but from November 2003, registrars are no longer required to collect this fee from new resellers.
